M.R.Hornibrook Tournament

Celebrating 60 Years of the M.R. Hornibrook Tournament
In 2018, the M.R. Hornibrook Tournament marked a significant milestone—its 60th anniversary—with a memorable event held in Brisbane.

Despite a major downpour in the days leading up to the tournament, and several course closures across the city, the event went ahead thanks to the strong partnerships we’ve built with local clubs. Wynnum Golf Club generously allowed play on their rain-soaked course, implementing compulsory tee-ups on four holes to preserve conditions. Meanwhile, Oxley and Gailes Golf Clubs proved resilient under the wet weather, allowing players to complete all rounds. Even a little sunshine made a welcome appearance by the final games.

Alongside the anniversary celebration, the tournament featured a number of personal and club milestones:

John Mitchell, Brisbane member, marked 50 consecutive years of participation

Ron Fraser, Brisbane Captain, celebrated 25 years of tournament attendance
And in a long-awaited triumph, Brisbane secured their first tournament win in 27 years—a moment of great pride for Captain Fraser, who had led the team for 23 years without a victory

It was a tournament that reflected the spirit, resilience, and camaraderie of the Q.M.B.A. Golf Club community.
